Shopping for the perfect pieces to add to your wardrobe can be a bit more difficult when you’re a plus size gal. I always struggle to find jeans that aren’t big enough for my thighs, but actually fit my waist. Not to mention that I’m 5’8”, it can be hard to find jeans that are long enough for me too. There’s a whole list of problems that I have when it comes to shopping for myself, but after learning a few tricks, my shopping experience has become a whole lot easier.
When you spot an item, grab extras
I run between a size 14 to a size 18; it really all depends on the manufacturer. Whenever I go out shopping for a dress or jeans, I always make sure that I grab a size up and a size down from what I know to be “my size”. I’m an XL usually, so when I’m going to try on a piece, I grab a Large and an XXL. That way, I don’t have to go all the way back through the store and go on a hunt for the piece that I just tried on. And who knows, maybe you’ll like the fit of a smaller or larger size on you. Don’t limit yourself to one size, as I find the most frustrating part about shopping is not being able to find the fit that I am looking for.
Dress for yourself
So what, you’re plus sized? You’re beautiful and you deserve to be happy with your body. Don’t dress in clothes that hide the beautiful figure you have; dress for your body shape. When you look good, you feel better about yourself. I have always struggled with my self-confidence, and I find that putting on a sassy outfit makes me feel like Beyoncé. Wear that crop top if you want to; don’t wait around for someone’s permission to dress however you please.
Don’t be afraid to go online
I do the majority of my shopping online. Actually, most of my favorite places to shopping are from online shops! Check out my list of chic and affordable plus-sized clothing that I shop from. I have a little sticky pad of my measurements, so when I’m unsure of what size I would select, I pull up the measuring guide that the company offers and go from there.
