We live in a society that is constantly directing us on who we should be and how we should be living our lives. With our eyes often glancing over different forms of media, it’s often difficult to hold any confidence in the person that you already are. Whether you’re feeling lost in the person that you are or you’re looking to discover yourself, this list of seven tips will help to assist you on your journey to self-discovery.
Bring yourself closer to God
As you study the Bible, look for evidence that you are a child of God. Know that you are a child of God and his unconditional love will help you to gain true confidence in the abilities that he has blessed you with.
Discover a passion
Allow yourself to bloom while you participate in an activity that you are passionate about. Whether it be dancing, painting, or spending your free time volunteering, discovering something that you are truly passionate about will give you the ultimate sense of fulfillment!
Remove yourself from negativity
Allow yourself to be free from the judgement of others, but also work on your efforts of comparing yourself to others. Nourish your mind with positive thoughts and a positive attitude; you will quickly see how much happier you’ve become.
Start with a clean slate
Begin to overcome your bad habits; they are something that hold you back and do not allow you to function at your highest capabilities. Learn how to stop abusing alcohol, smoking, over-eating, or lying.
Let go of the need of constant acceptance
There will be people that you come across in your life that will not always approve of your decisions or actions. By constantly trying to form yourself to please other people, you will lose your personal identity. It is not easy to please everyone and if you run across people who disapprove, do not let their opinions affect you.
Try something new
Give yourself an hour a day to try something that you would previously think as ‘weird’ or ‘uncomfortable’. Stepping outside of your daily pattern will allow you to view all the possible things that you are capable of, what you like, and what you don’t like. Opening your life up to new types of people and new experience will show you a whole new life that you may enjoy more than the life you were previously leading.
By taking your free time to serve those who are less fortunate than you, you are allowing yourself to view new types of situations that you may have never imagined before. You will realize what things are truly important in life as volunteering will put your stresses and problems into a whole new perspective. After spending time volunteering, you may see that your life will begin to fall into place as you realize what your true priorities are.
The journey to self-discovery is never easy nor short, as it takes courage, strength, and perseverance on your part. However, it is possible, if you keep up at the hard work and believe in yourself. Good luck and have fun!
